The Streets - NME/Radio 1 Stage
The end of an era
"It feels like yesterday that I first came here," Mike Skinner told the crowd, "but it was 10 years ago." He added, "it started here and it's going to end here. I will die tonight."
Playing songs from his extensive back catalogue like 'Don't Mug Yourself', 'Fit But You Know It' and 'Weak Become Heroes', with the help of his band Skinner conducted fans, instructing them when to make noise, bounce and get down on the floor. During 'Blinded By The Lights' he told them "you've been rocking for days and now you need a rest. In one minute we're all going to go low."
With everyone in the tent crouched down, Skinner then built up to the track's drop, at which point he encouraged the audience to go crazy.
Performing for 60 minutes, the Birmingham MC concluded his final show as The Streets by mooning the crowd, attempting to crowd surf and creating a circle pit in the middle of the tent. We're going to miss him.
